Prerequisites
Before requesting test tokens, ensure you have:- An account ready to receive tokens. You can find information on how to set up your browser wallet here.
- An Ethereum mainnet address that meets the faucet operator’s eligibility requirements.
Testnet faucets are operated by third parties, not by Plasma. Eligibility rules, daily limits, and availability are set by the faucet operator and may change without notice. The numbers below were accurate at time of writing; always check the operator’s site for the current rules.
Eligibility Requirements
Faucet operators apply anti-spam checks against your Ethereum mainnet address. Typical criteria include:- Balance: A minimum ETH balance on Ethereum mainnet.
- Account age / activity: A minimum number of historical transactions, or an account older than a threshold.
Getting Test Tokens
Request tokens from the faucet
- Visit openfaucet.org (or QuickNode’s Plasma faucet as an alternative).
- Click Connect Wallet and select MetaMask.
- Approve the connection in MetaMask when prompted.
- Ensure you’re connected to the Plasma Testnet (not Ethereum mainnet).
- Your wallet address should appear in the interface.
- Click Request XPL to submit your request.
- Wait for the transaction to be processed (typically a few seconds).
Daily Limits
Each faucet sets its own limits. Refer to the operator’s site for current per-address amounts, frequency, and reset windows.Verifying your Tokens
After requesting tokens, verify they arrived in your wallet:Check Balance in your Wallet
- Ensure you’re connected to Plasma Testnet in your browser wallet.
- Your XPL balance should appear in the main wallet view.
- If the balance doesn’t update immediately, wait a few seconds and refresh.
Verify on Block Explorer
For additional confirmation, check the transaction on a block explorer:- Copy your wallet address.
- Visit testnet.plasmascan.to.
- Paste your address in the search bar.
- Look for the recent incoming transaction from the faucet.
Troubleshooting
”Address not eligible” Error
This means your address doesn’t meet the faucet operator’s eligibility requirements. Check the operator’s current rules on their site; they typically center on Ethereum mainnet balance and account age / activity. If your address doesn’t qualify, try a different address that does.”Rate limit exceeded” Error
You’ve already requested tokens recently:- Wait for reset: Check the countdown timer showing when you can request again.
- Use a different address: If you have multiple eligible addresses, you can use a different one.
Tokens Not Appearing in Wallet
If tokens don’t appear after a successful request:- Check network: Ensure MetaMask is connected to Plasma Testnet (Chain ID 9746).
- Wait: Transactions typically confirm within seconds, but network delays can occur.
- Verify on explorer: Check the block explorer to confirm the transaction succeeded.
- Refresh wallet: Try refreshing MetaMask or restarting the browser.
Network Connection Issues
If the faucet website won’t load or connect:- Check internet connection: Ensure you have a stable internet connection.
- Try different browser: Some browser extensions can interfere with wallet connections.
- Clear cache: Clear your browser cache and cookies.
- Disable ad blockers: Some ad blockers can prevent wallet connections.
